Reptiles Photo Album Taxonomy

Traditional Reptilia Classification places turtles closer to lizards rather than crocodiles and birds. But recent DNA analysis shows turtles share common ancestry with birds and crocodiles rather than lizards and snakes.

The figure shows a simplified time-ordered evolutionary history taxonomic diagram illustrating the general arrangement of high-level mammal taxonomy relevant to the reptile photo album collections.

Class Aves (Birds) included for completeness. See https://www.rayplowman.co.uk/birds/ for all applicable bird photo albums.

The photo albums contain three Reptilia orders:
(1) Crocodilia (Crocodiles),
(2) Testudines (Turtles and Tortoises),
(3) Squamata (Lizards, Skinks and Snakes) comprising the following suborders:
(a) Autarchoglossa (Lizards and Skinks),
(b) Gekkota (Geckos),
(c) Iguania (Iguanas),
(i) Land, Marine and Tropidurid,
(ii) Agamids and Anoles,
(d) Serpentes (Snakes).
